About
Wahyu Warsono
Knowing both the 3D art and the technical side lets me see a project from an angle a specialist in either half would miss. I deliver work that is not only good to look at but actually runs. And while a project is still at the ideation stage, I can already tell what the challenges will be, where the limits are, how it would be built and how it should be delivered.
That matters most on work that has to survive the real world. Being visually convincing is not enough; it has to run properly too. I work best inside a project from the first proof of concept through to the deliverable build, and close to the people making the decisions rather than at the end of a brief.

Video games
The beginning and the escape
When I was in junior high school I got a pirated PS1, where I could play games like Mario Bros. and Contra. I was fascinated by how the way you interact with a game could give you a different outcome. You had total control over how you were going to overcome the challenge. That feeling kept growing and made me want to discover more: playing online games with friends at internet cafés, renting a PlayStation 2, and so on, until I got my own laptop in senior high school.
Once I had my own laptop, I could control what I did with it. I was playing GTA: San Andreas and wondered, what if I could put my motorcycle into the game? That is how I discovered 3D art. I really adore that feeling when you wake up on a weekend morning, have breakfast, then turn straight to your games without worrying about school. I have kept that routine to this day.
Music
The safe zone
Music
The safe zone
From time to time I keep finding myself “drowning” when I listen to music. You can find any kind of emotion in the form of music: from the way a producer gives you a build-up before the drop hits, to how a band arranges its parts to complement each other, to the way a singer screams using vocal compression and fry. There is always music for every type of emotion.
So it is only natural for me to try it too. Learning to play piano and guitar, making my own EDM, teaching myself how to sing. I even built my own DIY recording booth. This has always been the kind of activity I can enjoy without feeling guilty, because when you grow up, playing video games all day, even on a weekend, does not feel right. And if you ask whether I am any good: big no. But I am trying.

Same as with music. As a gamer, and someone who can produce both the content and the logic behind it, it is natural for me to want to make my own video game. I already have a couple of ideas, and one of them is well documented: how the game works, art style, mechanics, and so on.
It is hard to admit that after all these years I have not released anything. There are plenty of reasons for that, like time and being a perfectionist. But no matter what, I still wish that one day I will make my own IP.

The trial
I first met 3D printing machines around 2019, and I was fascinated by how you could take something out of 3D software and into the real world. I believe this might be the first generation of the in-house replicator. But at that time it was also hard to maintain. I kept hearing the people who owned one complain about keeping the bed at the right temperature, nozzles clogging, even humidity.
Then I recently discovered resin printing. It requires more material, like the resin itself, IPA and film, but it gives a better result with less maintenance than an FDM printer. For now I am planning to use it to print all the 3D assets I want, but in future I want to make something I can sell, like anime figures, at Comic Con.

I come from a humble family. We had no problem with food, but we could not buy everything we wanted. When I was in high school I wanted a bicycle, because most of my friends would bring theirs every Sunday morning. I knew how hard my father worked, and I kept thinking that if I owned a bike I would only use it once a week, or even less once the hype wore off. In the end I did not have the guts to ask my parents to buy one.
Growing from that, early in my career I started learning how to manage my money, how much to spend and how much to save, and then how to invest it. At some point I bought books that gave me a new perspective on how chasing money changes the way people see it, the psychology of it.
